What sets App Academy apart is that we invest ourselves fully in your success. If you select our Deferred Tuition plan, you will not be charged any tuition until 18 months after you start your bootcamp.
This forces us to be extremely thoughtful about every step of our student journey, from the way we structure our admissions process, to the way we determine what to teach and how to teach it. Every piece is affected by our investment in you.
Here is a quick breakdown:
Admissions: Because we offer both Deferred and Financed Tuition plans (powered by Climb Credit), we have a much wider applicant pool to select from, allowing us to accept students based on merit and not how much they can pay. This process is essential to the strength of our student body and makes it possible for us to teach more in-depth and at a faster pace than other programs.
Curriculum: Our #1 goal at App Academy is to provide you with the skills to get a job as a software developer. To achieve this, we are constantly evolving our curriculum to ensure that the skills you learn are the most relevant and valuable in the industry. Some of these topics have been determined over our 10 years of placing students, while others have evolved through conversations with top hiring partners such as Google, Uber, and others. We make continuous updates to ensure our curriculum teaches the top skills companies are looking for in candidates.
Job Search: Unlike other bootcamps, our Deferred and Financed Tuition plans come with Placement Protection. This means that if you don't get a job as a software engineer, the tuition for the bootcamp is free. Therefore, when you graduate, you can trust that we will do everything in our power to get you the best job offer possible. Regardless of tuition plan, we strive to help you find long term and meaningful job placement. To improve your candidacy we teach not only hard skills, but soft interviewing and interpersonal skills as well. We help with interview prep, salary negotiation, and provide you with our alumni network at the best companies in the world.
No, in order to make this platform completely free, we weren't able to make App Academy instructors available to answer questions. Students are unable to claim the education tax deductions because App Academy is not yet accredited by the U.S. Department of Education.
There is, however, a business expense deduction that can be taken by students who were already working in the field of computer programming: http://www.irs.gov/publications/p970/ch12.html#en_US_2013_publink1000178645
It is important to note that the work-related education deduction (see IRS website) must be taken as a business deduction. This means that students will not be able to deduct the expenses from their personal income (W-2's) unless the education is required by their employer. Students can take the deduction as a business expense if they earn self-employment income (1099's, K-1's) and paid the education expenses in the same year. The payments are recorded on cash-basis, so students would only deduct the tuition that was paid in the recent tax year, not the entire tuition balance.

App Academy does not provide federal financial aid. Instead, we offer the Deferred Tuition plan, which requires no deposit to enroll.
App Academy is currently unable to accept the GI bill or VETTEC as methods of tuition payment. Many of our veterans select our Deferred Tuition plan to postpone tuition payments until after job placement.
No catch! It's completely free. Since App Academy started in 2012, our main goal has been to increase access to web development education. We started by being the first to offer a Deferred Tuition model where we only charged tuition once you got a job. Now that we've proven the curriculum by placing thousands in high paying engineering roles, we see making our curriculum free as the next step in breaking down barriers into tech and increasing access.
App Academy does not provide federal financial aid.

Creating an account on App Academy Open is 100% free. It's a no gimmicks program where you'll get access to the same full-stack curriculum that students in App Academy's online immersive bootcamps receive. That means over 500 hours of content from readings, to videos, to projects, and more.

There is no real-time assistance from App Academy staff on Open, but you will have the ability to submit a support ticket and/or question within the platform. There isn't another free resource online that will take you from coding beginner to hirable engineer in the same way as App Academy Open.
You can either create an account or log in to the platform by heading over to my.appacademy.io/login.
No, it is not a requirement that you join the community. However, we strongly encourage you to become a member, so that you have access to both the peer collaboration and support opportunities offered there.
